The Angel Oak is one of the oldest oak trees in the country. Some say it is more than 500 years old. It is located on Johns Island in South Carolina and I had the privilege of seeing it a couple of years ago. It is so impressive with its long limps growing upward and then dipping downward to the ground. It is in a peaceful place at what seemed to be in the middle of no where spectacular. It made me think of how much we should cherish our life. The tree has been tested over time by many storms and acts of nature and it still stands proudly as visitors snap pictures of it and enjoy its unique beauty.
I walked away from the Angel Oak with a feeling that we are only as strong as we believe we are. We die when we stop living. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut and we are into what seems to be a comfort zone. Stepping out is scary and yet it gives us a reason to keep living. The people that enjoy life keep stepping out of comfort. They are living everyday moving towards their dreams. They are not letting the storms in their life stop them.
It has been a busy summer enjoying our grandchild. He reminds us everyday that life is really a miracle. We are still awaiting the arrival of grandchild number two who is has decided he is not ready to make his grand entrance into this world. He is testing our patience as well as his mother and dad aa we wait for another miracle.
I managed to loose eleven pounds and I can say that Haylie Pomroy's meal plan works. My husband lost weight too. Together we feel a lot lighter and healthier. We are feeling well and enjoying life.
My heart has wept for those people that have endured the wrath of hurricane season. We can only pray and hope that they will have the strength to keep on living.
Life is beautiful!

Laney passed away in Febuary of 2017. This blog and her legacy live on. She gave me courage to talk about how the medical field affected our family. She gave me a purpose to write. Forever she will be in my heart.

You Can Eat Healthy and Loose Weight Without Starving Yourself
The days of summer are passing by quickly and so are the days of our lives. It has been a busy summer with the birth of our first grandchild and preparing for another one to grace us in about six weeks. We will have two grandsons to keep us busy and a good reason to keep ourselves healthy and in shape. Investing in your own heath is a great payoff for the future. So many people invest in their finances and neglect their heath. Health does require some work and dedication to exercise and eat healthy but the payoff is happy golden years.
My husband threw a birthday celebration for my entry this year into what is to be the golden years and after seeing pictures he took of me I knew I had some work to do. Pictures don't lie and I was not pleased with how much weight I gained during menopause. I had given up and divorced Ben and Jerry ice cream a year ago in hopes of loosing the 15 pounds I have gained over the last 7 years. However my body decided to hold onto the fat and slammed the breaks on my metabolism. I believe that my thyroid has become lazy as the doctor said my eyebrows were telling her so. They have slowly disappeared. Thank you God for eyebrow pencils. These golden years are not looking so golden right now, but never fear I am a fighter.
I started in fall of 2016 going to the gym and Zumba classes two days a week and it was keeping me active until my left sacroiliac joint started screaming at me. It got so bad I gave up Zumba in the fall of 2017 and spent one of the longest winters in history in pain. Until this past spring when I started taking Biosil for my skin and it was also helpful for joints. It may be a fluke but the pain disappeared and what a great relief it was. So with the that behind me I decided to start revving up my metabolism.
I saw a book on the best seller list called, Metabolism Revolution : Lose 14 Pounds in 14 Days and Keep It Off For Life, by Haylie Pomroy. I had heard Haylie speak about her diet on a talk show and decided to buy the book. The book has made me rethink how I eat. It is based on filling up on vegetables, fruit and protein and getting healthy. I haven't had to worry about counting calories and was a little skeptical at first but I have been following her advice and I have lost 6lbs. I can honestly say I have not been hungry for and sweets and at times I have felt stuffed from all the food.
My husband and I have had no processed food for ten days and I have not craved any.. I have always ate a lot of vegetables and fruit but I am learning how to eat them to burn the belly fat and keep healthy. Hoping to say goodbye to all 15 lbs. and my belly. I am willing to learn how to make healthy treats as we all need our rewards. The greatest reward of course is being healthy and energetic for my grandchildren.
Just loosing six pounds feels great.as I dislike being overweight. I never had a weight problem until menopause. I know a lot of women who struggle with weight when menopause begins, but there is hope if you are willing to change your eating habits and exercise. I have a friend and over the last two years has lost 149 lbs and said she feels great. I am not sure what diet plan she was using, but obviously it has paid off. She has been an inspiration for a lot of people struggling to loose weight. It is worth changing our lifestyle habits and remembering to invest in our own health.
I am hoping to report back soon that I have lost 6 more pounds. Thank you Haylie Pomroy for teaching us to eat healthy.
