Walking For A Purpose

Yesterday Laney and I enjoyed the last day of Indian Summer.  In less than 24 hrs. the weather has turned dismal and temperature is slowly declining in what will be a 40 degree drop. The weather man is predicting only highs of 40 for the next week. We went from air conditioning to heat in the house. Day light savings time will end next week and darkness will end our evening walks. We will have to walk indoors at the university track. Laney will miss us as she will not be able to walk with us.  Hopefully if the sun shines, I will be able to walk her outside. So long to warm weather as I pray I have the strength to make it through another long winter.

It is sad to think that I was wearing shorts last eve as I enjoyed a beautiful evening of walking with my husband.  Today I'll be wearing long pants and a coat. YUCK!!!  We were talking so much last evening that we walked five miles without realizing it. We both said that it seemed effortless as we reflected back on our first three mile walk. We are getting stronger and closer to our half marathon in San Antonio. I keep my mind set on warmer weather there and my goal of 13 miles.  I wear my shirt that says I walk because someones life depends on it.

This weekend we will be walking at the university. The track is 1/9 mile and  I had to laugh as I told my husband that we would have to walk 81 times around the track to complete our goal of nine miles this weekend.  I'll probably be dizzy  from going around and around and around..... I may look like a drunk by the time we finish.  I'll probably feel like Laney after she chases her tail around in circles.  None the less, I'm always blessed I can walk and hope that our fund raising for the marathon will make a difference in someones life.  Life is good!! Blessings to all who support Lymphoma research.

Dreams In The Clouds

The background for my blog is the blue sky with white fluffy clouds which always makes me feel happy.  As a child there was a hill on the side of our house where I use to lay on warm summer days and watch the white fluffy clouds.  I would use my imagination and dream about what I could see in the clouds.  Today was one of those beautiful days with the sky blue and I could have easily lost myself dreaming as the clouds took shape. I have at times seen what appears to be Laney skipping through the sky.  It is amazing if you just take the time to look up, you may see yourself some where else. It is a relaxing way to let your imagination go.  I also use to lay on the hill and watch the planes go by and wonder where they were going. Paris was one of my destinations.  I wonder if Laney would like Paris. The thrill of romance, the fashion world, french pastries, and the Eiffel Tower does sound like a dream.  Maybe someday Laney and I will catch  a cloud to France.  In the meantime we have walking to do, as we continue to train and enjoy the warm sunny day.  Take a moment to look to the sky and you may be able to catch a glimpse of your dreams.

Frosty Mornings

Frost has already showed an early arrival as the days are getting shorter.  Some of my beautiful flowers have succumbed to the cold and are on there way to a land fill. Laney has adjusted to the cold as dogs are warm blooded, but I am having to readjust my mind to cope with the thought of winter.  My husband and I are trying to get back on our training schedule for our half marathon.  The rainy weather and cold days has kept us from walking as we should. We were able to walk last eve as the sun was out and we did feel warm despite the cool temperatures. As the days shorten and day light saving time ends, we will be forced to walk on an inn door track. We hope to be able to enjoy what is left of a beautiful fall before old man winter sets in. Laney is already getting into a routine for winter as she is curled up in a ball sleeping next to me.  I am going to have to wake her up, because I need a cheer leader to get us back on our training schedule.  We are going to walk our way through winter.  Or we may be slipping and sliding, but definitely not wearing flip flops.

Lighting Up The Night

It was a beautiful day with warm temperatures and lots of sun.  Laney and I enjoyed being outside working in the yard. Our days will be numbered now as rain and cold days are closing in on us. The flowers are so beautiful right now and have managed to survive a few cold nights.  It won't be long before the frost will bring their beauty to an end.

The evening turned out to be just as beautiful as we walked in The Light The Night event.  Thousands of red, white and gold balloons lit the sky as we walked at dusk.  It is always a beautiful event to see.  The warm weather brought out a lot of people.  Thanks to all my husband's co workers that made donations to LLS.  Your support is accepted with much gratitude and love.  Laney says thank you also.

God Bless all who are living with blood cancers and those who lost the battle.

Home At Last

It was a long ride home yesterday through the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia as it rained nonstop. God had painted the tree tops with gold, orange, and red.  It was like looking at a painted canvas.  At times the rain had created a lot of fog which swirled and created what looked like clouds all around us. I fell asleep for about an hour only to awake wondering where we were.  My husband's internal GPS  had a lapse and we were in a state that was not on the path to home.  After pulling off the road, I was able to set us back on track, but the detour had set us back a couple of  hours.

My son called wanting to know where we were.  He confessed that Laney was depressed and awaiting our arrival. He laughed as I explained we were a little off the beaten path.  I could hear him over the phone reassuring Laney we would be home hopefully before midnight.  I decided sleep would have to wait until we were home, as I kept my GPS on track.

Finally we were home and we had returned to the cool fall weather.  I was already to put the car in reverse as I thought about winter coming.  I could hear Laney growling as we unlocked the door.  She was pleasantly surprised as she flipped around on the floor, wagging her tail and going back and forth between my husband and I. She always has a nice greeting for us to help sooth the fact that we are back to reality.  As I type this she is sitting on my lap and I am at peace with my four legged friend.  Life is good!!
