Yes I'm Irish

Wow it has been about a little over two weeks since my last post.  I have been out and about enjoying the warmer temperatures.  Laney and I have enjoyed some walks together.  The weather this time of year is so unpredictable,  and I love every opportunity to get outside.  We had a high of 65 yesterday and sunshine.  Today the clouds rolled in and it is cold.  We are all waiting here in the north for warm air to come and stay.

The grass is still brown and trees are still bare.  I am guessing we will have a late spring.  There are some green things peeking their heads out of the ground in the flower beds.  They better stay covered, as another blast of cold air will be with us until end of next week.  Oh what a winter this has been.

I spent the week with friends and of course my wonderful husband.  It was a good week that started off with St. Patrick's Day!  I celebrated with friends at lunch and a kiss from my husband.  I had a plaque in the foyer that said, "Kiss me I'm Irish."  And, yes I am half Irish.  The luck of the Irish has been with me all week, as we have run into lots of friends that we have not seen for awhile.  It is always fun to catch up.

I celebrated National Happy Day Thursday with lots of smiles and dancing.  Life has been filled with a lot of fun days this year and I hope they continue.  Tell yourself everyday is happy and soon you'll believe it.

Life is Full of Wows

March came in like a lion, but it is has been filled with sunshine the last three days.  I bet we have set a record for sure this winter for sunshine.  It has made life in the cold and snow tolerable.  I hope the sun continues throughout spring.  The forecast for next week looks promising for warmer temperatures.

It was time yesterday to break up the monotony of the long days of winter.  My husband called from work and asked me to meet him at the university indoor track.  It was so nice to walk and plan to train again for some upcoming races.  One of them is called "The Flying Pig".  I always laugh when I hear that, as I picture pigs flying by us as we waddle down the road. LOL!  We have two months to get in shape for a 10k. Hopefully before long we will be able to walk outside, as the snow is finally melting again.

Our evenings this winter have been occupied with reading books.  I finished up a short biography on Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis last night.  I have always been fascinated with her life and the Kennedys.  I let out a wow at the end of the book, as I saw she had passed away on May 19th, 1994.  The date took me by surprise, as it is my husband's birthday.   As I let out the wow, my husband informed me she had passed away from an aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.  The book had not stated her cause of death, but said her family had gathered by her side on May 18th, for there last goodbyes.  It gave me a creepy feeling as my own mother died 10 years later on May 18th, 2004.  Jacqueline however had hung on until the eve of May 19th.

I looked up Jacqueline's death on the Internet and verified her cause of death on several sites.  It really took me by surprise, as I still remember when she passed away.  I guess at the time of her passing my husband and mother had not yet been diagnosed with lymphoma, so her cause of death did not register in my mind.   I had always found any news that circulated about Jacqueline to be interesting.  Perhaps it was her lifestyle that fascinated me or the fact that she was well poised.  She was a very smart lady and left us too early.

Life is full of wows and everyday brings new discoveries to our attention.  Exercise the mind with reading and you can feed it with knowledge.

Stuck in Winter

We have had an interesting weekend with the weather.  I spent yesterday afternoon enjoying sunshine and a high of 50 degrees, as my husband and I finished cleaning up leaves in the yard.  The warmth of the sun felt good.  It is hard to believe that 24 hours later we have snow on the ground and the temperature is going to drop down around zero again.  We are expected to get more snow this evening.  So much for seeing the grass.  Please winter go away.

I am so grateful for our road crews that work long hours to keep our main roads clear.  We were able to get out and walk in the mall today.  Everyone you talk to has cabin fever.  It has been a long winter.    I am amazed at all the sunshine we have had in between snow storms.  Last week was very cold and we had strong winds on Thursday, but the sun did shine everyday.  I have been trying to get out some each day, but the cold air stings my face and leaves me feeling cold to the bone.  I am so looking forward to planting a garden and flowers.  Please warm spring air descend up us.

My husband and I spent today talking about how we can't wait to ride our bicycles and have fun outside.  I have started planning how I want my flower beds to look.  Maybe dreaming about the warm weather will bring it soon.  I don't think anyone will complain about a hot summer after this winter.  I will pray that we will see the grass again soon and it will be beautiful green.

For now Laney and I will stay home wrapped up in a blanket until the next big thaw, and dream of wearing flip flops and sipping lemonade.  And, if you have to go out we will pray you don't hit a pothole in the road or get swallowed by a sink hole.  Slow down and drive safe, so you can enjoy spring when it decides to come to town.
