Hibernating

Laney has spent this month of January hibernating. She has been curled up in a ball sleeping most of her days and nights. She does not like all the rain and wind we have been getting. I have to coax her and almost trick her to get her to go outside. And, when she does go out she returns quickly to the door. I guess you could say she is spoiled by the comforts of our home. I on the other hand have been busy with home improvements and cleaning. Laney does not seem to be phased by the fact that I have not paid much attention to her lounging disposition. I hope she comes alive again when winter decides to retreat and warm air of spring brings life back to the earth. I would not want her to miss the beauty of daffodils and tulips. Yet, she still has time to sleep and dream before the sun decides to shine and I have plenty time to clean some more. Shucks, I was hoping I could hibernate too.

The Power of Hugs

I often wonder if Laney gets a wonderful feeling that I love her when I pick her up and hug her. I know that on a daily basis I love to give her hugs as a simple gesture of how much I enjoy her company. She seems to be delighted when people hugs her as I watch her tail wag back and forth. My daughter has commented on occasion that Laney looks as if she is smiling when we hug and pet her. I will believe that just as we feel great comfort from a genuine hug, she also feels comfort. The power of the human touch can stroke our soul and make us feel that we are appreciated and loved. What a wonderful thing that is so easy to do and crosses all language barriers.

Early Spring

Has been an unusual week to start a new year. Laney sat and watched me dismantle the Christmas tree and said good bye to all the decorations. We also said good bye to the snow and cold air. We got an early taste of spring weather or just a tease of it. The sun which rarely shines in January has been out now for about four days. And, our north winds shifted and we actually had temperatures that were a few degrees shy of 60. The weather man said it will not last, but Laney and I sure took advantage of it and enjoyed being outside. I'm sure that this will go down as record breaking temperatures for January. Now if we could continue with this same weather, Laney and I would be extremely elated. But, as the saying goes all good things sometimes come to an end. So, we will enjoy and be grateful for the little tease and keep our minds focused on spring.

Starting A New Year

Laney and I are starting the New Year enjoying the indoors. The cold north winds blew in on New Years Day at 40mph, with wind chills of seven degrees. The first official snow fall of year left behind about an inch of snow with some icy roads. Laney does not seem to mind the snow as she runs through it and sticks her face in it. She returns to the back door quickly with icy paws and a snow mustache. She loves the snow as it is evident watching her play in it, but she also loves the warmth of the indoors. I myself prefer to stay indoors and watch her play from the window. As we face each day this year with a new adventure, we are marking off the days until spring and we are both looking forward to playing outside. I'll end this post with Laney by my side as we dream about our wonderful new adventures and sip hot cocoa.
