This past Sunday my husband and I had the pleasure of attending a sermon by Joel Osteen about the power of laughter. I have been a blessed person when it comes to laughter. I married a very funny man and have been blessed with a funny dad.
After listening to Joel, I discovered why my dad seems so young for a soon to be 81 year old man. Joel said studies had been done on the power of laughter keeping people young and helping people heal when sick. When ever we laugh we release good endorphins that help our bodies to stay young. My dad seems to know the secret, because as long as I can remember he has always laughed at life on a daily basis. He looks great for his age and has fooled many people. He has told me also on many occasions that he is not old yet. He says you are allowed to say your old when you hit 90.
I feel that I have his sense of humor, so I'm a lucky lady. My husband also has been blessed with a good sense of humor that has helped him through his journey with cancer. Thank goodness we have been able to laugh at some very difficult times. And, I think we look young or maybe my eyesight is going bad.(LOL) Okay remember to get a bowl of laughter a day and make an appointment to see my dad, he will make you a believer.
Whoops I forgot to mention my four legged friend, Laney. She is of course part of my bowl of laughter. If you need laughter just invest in a four legged friend. They can provide hours of amusement. For example, she chases her tail, spinning in circles yet never catches it. And of course she loves to eat toilet paper or get in my purse and eat my list of passwords to my accounts. Oh well, what can I say? I LOVE YOU LANEY!
Elizabeth:)
Laney passed away in Febuary of 2017. This blog and her legacy live on. She gave me courage to talk about how the medical field affected our family. She gave me a purpose to write. Forever she will be in my heart.

A Road Trip With Laney
When we made a decision to relocate to help my husband fight cancer, we had no second thoughts about taking Laney. She of course is part of the therapy, a reason to have to get up in the mornings, someone that depends on you, and a friend that will lay next to you when you don't feel well. So Laney took her first road trip and a long one 1200 miles.
The plan was for Laney to sleep in a nice soft bed in the back seat of the car with a state of the art harness to protect her. It was a harness that was padded to protect the chest and body and it had a loop that the seat belt slipped through to keep her safe. Just as I had protected my children, now I was trying to protect Laney.
We started out on our trip and five miles down the road, I felt some warm breathing on my neck and a little slobber. As I looked over my shoulder there stood Laney on the arm rest. She had somehow magically gotten out of the harness. I instructed my husband to pull over and I put the harness back on, and re secured it, and off we went. This time in less than 60 seconds, she was out of the harness and in my lap. She was a little Houdini.
Needless to say the $50 that I spent on the bed and harness would have been better off thrown out the window for some stranger to have used. So, 1195 miles with my four legged friend in my lap. Was it safe? I don't think so. But, did she make it? Yes! She was in my lap and I love her.

I LOVE YOU !
Three words in our language that pack a lot of meaning....I LOVE YOU. There is something about those words that can make our adrenalin rush, can make us blush, and make us feel so good and validate our self worth.
We sometimes get so rushed and wrapped up in life we forget to tell people dear to us those three words. Think about what happened this past week in Japan and the loss of Steve Kerrigan(Radio Host). Remember to say I love you ever chance you get to those dear to you. So, "I LOVE YOU," goes out to my husband, children, dad, family, and all my friends.
Also let me say just a few words about Laney, my four legged friend. She is of course the main topic of this blog. I read somewhere that dogs can comprehend up to 250 words, but don't remember where I read the info. How do we know this? Why only 250 words? I know she understands sit, walk, food, treat, and various other words. She responds to these words appropriately and I find myself spelling out the words at times, as not to excite her too much. But the most important words I hope she does understand is... I LOVE YOU!

The Long Journey
I heard it said life is a journey whether good or bad. I guess its up to the individual to decide if its going to be good. I have tried to find all that is good on my journey this past year to over shadow what some make think of as bad.
For the last year the journey has taken Laney and me to a place we never dreamed of. Yes, I do have dreams of visiting Italy, lush tropical destinaions, or anywhere the sun shines a lot. But, for now I am visiting a place that I never dreamed of and it is 1200 miles from my lifetime destination.
It was a journey to help a loved one. Someone very dear to Laney and me. The journey has produced lots of sunshine, a warm winter, and some beautiful flowers to view. It is also a blessed place for us and many other people. It is helping my husband, my soul mate and Laney's master. So, ultimately it is a good journey, just one that I had not expected.

My Four Legged Friend Has A Name
My four legged friend has a name, it is Laney. She was named by my children, who are still debating over who actuslly came up with the name. Regardless. they picked a wonderful name.
I can't imagine her name as anything else. Yes, Laney is a girl. She can be quite the lady most days when she prances around with pride. She has a way of stopping total strangers and getting an "Ah, you are so cute." She delights in the attention.
She is truly a faithful dog to my husband and I. Always there to bring a smile to our face and protect us. She has given me a reason to keep living through some difficult times. I would recommend a four legged friend for anyone, whether it be a dog, cat, or other pet. A wonderful companion who never complains.
