Laney passed away in Febuary of 2017. This blog and her legacy live on. She gave me courage to talk about how the medical field affected our family. She gave me a purpose to write. Forever she will be in my heart.

The comments my husband made about our four legged friend
1. Shouldn't we go home and think about this purchase for a couple of days?
2. How are we going to pay for this dog?
3. The dog is keeping me up all night like a new born baby.
4. I'm going to have to call into work I'm exhausted.
5. The dog made a mess on the floor and it's your dog.
6. It's your turn to the let the dog out.
7. There's another mouth to feed.
8. I finally have a girl that meets me at the door!

Aquiring a Four Legged Friend
It was just an ordinary day in Aug 2006, just two months after the passing of my mother-law. She had made one last request of me in her final days, "Please get my son a dog." she said. How could I deny the request? Although, I had swore after raising two children, two rabbits, and numerous hamsters that I was done with cleaning up messes. Like I said it was just an ordinary day, no intention of acquiring a new family member.
As my husband and I walked through the mall we passed the pet store. Strangely, as if by some magical force we were sucked into the store. There in a cage with a face smashed to the window were big brown eyes. I saw a tail wagging and no matter which way I walked the eyes were following me. My heart was saying ask to hold the dog and my brain was saying don't do it. I turned to exit the store. As I began to leave the store a sales clerk asked, "Would you like to hold the dog?" Without hesitation I said, "Yes!" Never before had I said yes to holding a dog.
The dog seemed to leap into my arms and as I tried to pull her off her claws dug into my skin. The clerk said that the dog had been at the store for many weeks and the thought of what might happen if I gave her back made me feel sick. So, in a matter of ten minutes I became the proud owner of a dog, cage, toys, food, you name it. The best purchase I ever made.
(Thanks, Mom ... In loving memory of my mother-law.)
